School counselors are certified, licensed educators who assist all students both in school and in planning for their future. An integral part of the total educational system, school counselors assist students to form healthy goals, mindsets and behaviors. School counselors also help students to learn effective collaboration and cooperation skills, perseverance, and time management skills. In addition, school counselors aid students in gaining study and self-motivation skills.
At CCSD, we are committed to implementing a comprehensive school counseling program. It is with this in mind that we are adopting the American School Counselor Association’s National School Counseling Model. The model was created to have a significant positive impact on student achievement, attendance, and discipline.
The ASCA National Model® guides school counselors in the development of school counseling programs that:
Are based on data-informed decision-making
Are delivered to all students systematically
Include a developmentally appropriate curriculum focused on the mindsets and behaviors all students need for postsecondary readiness and success close achievement and opportunity gaps
Result in improved student achievement, attendance, and discipline
