Each spring, 4th graders are part of lessons and activities that will help them transition to the middle school. Students will be given time to write to a 5th grade Pen Pal, practice combination locks, talk about thoughts and feelings regarding this transition, and visit the middle school.
In April, 4th graders will be assigned a Pen Pal in 5th grade. Students will have the chance to write back and forth with their Pen Pal asking questions they have about middle school life.
In May, 4th grade students will be introduced to middle school. The middle school counselor, Susan Read, will bring four 5th graders to the elementary school to speak with the 4th graders about middle school life. The next day, 4th graders will walk over to the middle school to meet their pen pals and the 5th grade teachers, and will also go on a tour of the school. Students will also get to experience a middle school lunch hour.
We hope these efforts will help your child and you feel more confident and relaxed about the transition from 4th to 5th grade!
