FOCUS STUDY WORKSHOPS:
In fall 2017, the District hosted two focus groups with a diverse group of community members comprised of parents, grandparents, teachers, coaches, former school board members, business owners, farmers, and CCSD graduates. The facilitated discussions, as one component of larger communication and engagement effort, offered an opportunity for informal dialogue on key topics related to Clinton schools, community and the facilities planning process. The qualitative data gathered provided insights into community member’s perspectives, beliefs, and attitudes. Key questions included:
- What are Clinton community members most proud of?
- What are the challenges that face our community & schools?
- What are Clinton community schools’ greatest assets?
- Describe how Clinton could function differently to support students and community?
- What advice do you have for the Board as they address priorities for facilities planning?
- What information will the community need in order to make informed decisions about the future of Clinton schools?
Information from the focus group discussions was used to inform the Board and District’s facilities planning efforts. The focus group participants were invited back in early spring 2018 to participate in a workshop to review and reflect on the facilities assessment findings and potential options to address needs. This information was also provided to all Clinton residents at the March 21st Community Workshop.
